Product Videos Sell More Products!

While it might seem daunting to create product videos on your entire catalog, research shows that it is well worth the investment.  Research by Treepodia shows that there is an increase conversion rate in sales of more than 30% when there is a product video.  What is interesting is that this conversion rate remains the same whether the customer watches the video or not.

Why do Customers Buy Products when there is a Product Video?

It may have to do with consumer behavior and the trust factor.  People feel more secure about buying a product when there is a video about the product.  They know that you trust your product enough to create a video about it.  It also lets your customers know that you are investing into the product and believe in it enough to create a video.  So, it must be a good product.

How Expensive is to to Create Product Videos

It remains true that poor quality video can actually have a detrimental effect on your site.  If you are using the video to showcase your products and increase your conversion rate, then it is worth the expense to have them professionally produced.  It is possible to recreate a video using images.  We can use our editing software to move on the photos making it appear to be video.  This is one way to reduce the cost of product videos.  Another way to get more from your money is to shoot lots of products in one day.  That way, you only have one day of video production cost  and yet will receive many product videos.

As always, it is important to measure the video’s performance against  your goals that you have set for that product.

How to Make Your Video Production More Dynamic

Do you know what a dolly is?  It is sort of like putting roller skates on a camera and gently gliding it back and forth through a shot in a video.  We used a dolly for the first time with our new video that we created for Don Redding with Redding Communications.

You can see that there is some slight movement during the client interviews.  This effect adds a really nice touch to a video.  Don Redding wanted a really beautiful and dynamic video to show to prospective clients.  And, that is exactly what he got.

Christopher featured on the Triad’s NPR “Voices & Viewpoints” show

I had the honor of sitting down with Denise Franklin, host of WFDD’s “Voices & Viewpoints” show, and discussing some of my adventures spanning 20 years in this business.  We go through some stories of my experiences as both an audio technician and cameraman in locations throughout the world – Torino, Mali Africa, Beijing, Galapagos Islands, and Papua New Guinea.

You can Listen to the program on WFDD’s website:

Anyone who knows me, understands how I love to be behind the camera but shy away from getting in front of it.  If you listen to the beginning of this show you’ll hear how I sound when I’m nervous.  As the show goes on I get settled into a grove and become more comfortable.  I have to thank the wonderful producer of the show, Kathryn Mobley, for working her producer magic and making it a great show.

How to Use Video as Part of a Cold Call

Most of us in sales just want a chance to get in front of our perspective clients and show them what we have to offer to meet their needs.  Video is invaluable as a tool to sell your services and products.  Here are some ways to use it to gain new customers as you cold call prospective customers.

1) After the initial contact, you can send the video in an email.

A short 2 minute introductory video is a great way to get someone interested enough in you and your services and products to want to set up that initial meeting.  If you offer a service, this video can really showcase your personality and the talent and skills that your business can bring to this prospective client.  If you sell products, the video can highlight all of the best features of your product line.  Bottom line, you just want that chance to get in front of the prospective client to see if you can meet their needs.  This video example was created for Soft Solutions.  Corliss McGinty’s goal was to show prospective clients what she has to offer in terms of team building.  It has been a great tool for her to have as she contacts new businesses.

2) You can include the video during your sales pitch.

Recently, we had a client who incorporated the video into their power point presentation.  After the testimonial video finished playing, his prospective client looked at him and said “You’re hired!”  This is the power of video!  His client did not need to hear and see anything else.  My video client really felt that it was the video that sold him.

3) You can sent your prospective client to your video on your website.

When you are talking with prospective client, it’s great to be able to say “You can actually see a video of me and what I do on my website.”  It allows your future clients to get a sense of you and your services before they even meet with you.

As I’ve said, all we want in sales is the chance to present what we have to offer.  Video is the way to get that chance.

Using Video to Open Doors to New Customers

As many business owners who provide a service, Mary Ann wants to start a conversation with potential clients.  The challenge is to open that door to a potential client and get them to hear what you have to say.  A short 2 to 3 minute video about your service is the best way to open that door.

Many people ask me what is involved in creating a video.  For this video, Mary Ann picked 3 of her clients who were willing to talk about their experiences with her as their business coach.  She arranged for us to go to each of their business locations to interview them.  We spent about 2 hours at each location interviewing the business owner as well as getting some footage of their business.  Once we interviewed Mary Ann, we pulled out the best clips from all of the interviews that really highlighted the essence of her coaching service.  We put this together with some nice graphics, some nice music and a good call to action at the end.  While she was hesitant to be on camera at first, she now says that she has a “gem” of a marketing tool.
